Press conference “ Patient with pain – medical orphan?”

The press conference “ Patient with pain – medical orphan?” was organized on order of company Pfizer. It has taken place in Clinic of Nervous Diseases named after A.Y Kozhevnikov within the branches of conference in remembrance of A.M. Vein.

It is considered, that we know nearly all about pain. But Russian leading neurologists, that made speech at press conference, are sure: the pain is one of the most serious and poorly explored problems of modern medicine.

Every third person feels a headache not less than once a year. And 10 % of them are even unhappier – they suffer from migraine. Professor N.N Yakhno believes that migraine is one of the most widespread kinds of pain. According to the statistics every tenth man in the world suffers from it. Recent researches show that 84% of patients have never consulted with a doctor about this problem and treated themselves with common pain relievers though nowadays there exist effective drugs for migraine treatment. Doctors highly estimated the appearance of such drugs as “ Neurontin” and “Relpax” presented by Pfizer at the Russian market.

The press conference attracted the attention of journalists of specialized medical and socio-political Mass Media. The result of the event: there will be less “ medical orphans” if people understand the importance of well-timed address to the specialized clinics for proper diagnostics and choice of individual plan of treatment. And Mass Media play the important role in the distribution of such important information.
